Free Legal Representation for Veteran Suicide Prevention

ADF

The National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide Prevention has been established to research the suicides of serving and veteran Australian Defence Force Members.

If you have been asked to provide evidence or to answer questions in relation to an inquiry by the National Commissioner, you could be eligible for a grant by the Attorney-General’s Department. This grant assists individuals and entities to meet the costs of legal representation during an inquiry.

The grant will cover reasonable legal representation, including solicitor’s costs and disbursements, for witnesses for the inquiry.

To be eligible for this grant for legal financial assistance, individuals or entities must be:

  • being called, or granted leave to appear, as a witness at a public or private hearing of the National Commissioner, or

  • being requested to attend or attending an interview of the National Commissioner, or

  • being requested to provide a written statement that will be used as evidence of the National Commissioner, and/or

  • complying with a notice to produce issued by the National Commissioner.

March On Legal can apply for the grant on your behalf – free of charge.
If your application is successful, March On Legal will not charge you any out of pocket expenses to represent you before the Commission.
